@tsunami2311: I can’t decide if the market is ready for digital only, or worse streaming only. Most gamers will go along with it if it’s their only choice, as consumers we don’t have the willpower to just say no and not play those shiny new games :). What I’m not sure of is if the marketing and such is ready.
You have the gamer masses, those we might not call casual but maybe softcore :), they don’t follow gaming news as closely as “us” but more and more they catch bits of info, TV ads, etc. Does the retail store experience still play much into their buying decisions? I think it’s safe to assume that if retail was cut out, our console UIs would get more advertising. On the other hand, they might not cut out retail, and still allow stores to just go on the same way, with boxes containing vouchers instead of discs.
