‘Halo Wars 2’ Blitz Beta Inbound On Xbox One And PC – Forbes
There’s already been one multiplayer beta for Halo Wars 2. Now a second is coming up prior to the game’s launch on February 21st.
This time the beta will focus on the new card-based mode ‘Blitz.’ In Blitz mode players use deck-building alongside the game’s tactical RTS combat, combining one of the biggest trends in modern gaming with, well, a style of game that’s not nearly as popular as it once was.
Here’s the trailer:
Looks kind of neat. The cards certainly invoke Halo 5’s multiplayer. Cards are in every game now.
The beta runs from the 20th to the 30th of January—so a good, long time to get familiar with this game mode, which I’m betting Microsoft is hoping will be a big hit. This late in the game—just one month out from launch—a beta serves as a stress test for servers and as a demo/hype-builder for gamers.
Nothing major will change about the game between now and its launch regardless of player feedback, whereas the first beta back in June resulted in “a tremendous amount of valuable feedback on both the technical and gameplay side” according to Microsoft.
The beta is coming to both Xbox One and PC, will play out on the map ‘Proving Grounds’ and will feature 1 vs 1, 2 vs 2 and 3 vs 3 gameplay. None of your progress will carry over to the main release, but all the cards available in the main game are coming to the beta as well.
The beta is open to everyone and free with one caveat: Xbox One gamers will need Xbox Live Gold to play. PC gamers are off the hook for any paid subscription requirement.
