Around 50 people work at Microsoft’s Advanced Prototyping Center, a 20,000-square-metre hall packed with laser cutters, water-jet machines, wire cutters and 3D printers. “Everything we do for industrial design gets painted and finished. It has to look like the finished product,” says prototyping director Bill Maes, who runs the facility.
