For Nintendo, it’s rewind and replay – Boston Herald
Nintendo has rebooted its 1990s-era Super Nintendo Entertainment System, only smaller, in a single package loaded with 21 titles to delight retro gamers.
The Super NES Classic Edition, which hit stores early yesterday morning, includes beloved titles like Contra III, Donkey Kong Country, Final Fantasy III, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Mega Man X, Star Fox, Street Fighter II Turbo, three Super Mario titles and others. In addition to the classic SNES games, the system also includes a never-before released game: Star Fox 2.
Nintendo, which is already aiming the long-awaited system at holiday shoppers, said more of the retro units were shipped in preparation for yesterday’s launch day than were shipped of its original NES system in all of last year.
The $80 system fits in the palm of your hand and comes with two controllers, a power cable, and an HDMI cable to hook into a TV.
A new development from the 1990s SNES in the rebooted system is a rewind feature that lets gamers jump back to replay challenging sections. It also includes a frame feature that lets gamers choose a border to the screen.
In a statement, Doug Bowser, spokesman for Nintendo of America, said: “Super NES Classic Edition is perfect for any Nintendo fan, retro gamer or anyone who just wants to play some really fun video games.”
